Did patch just screw my secondary profession?
So a couple days ago I changed my character's secondary from ranger to monk and played around with it a bit, mostly because of the problem with pets in later missions. However the patch fixed that and made me want to play my ranger secondary again. So I go to the town and I don't have the option to go back to ranger, only to elementalist, which is another secondary quest I finished but never changed to one. I go to all 3 towns and at the third I get the Ranger's Path quest. Now, wtf? I've unlocked almost all of the Ranger skills I wanted and I can't instantly change back? And if I do the Ranger quest, how do I know I wont have 4 starting spells and nothing else? Mind you, I've changed professions back and forth at will with my other character, so something seems seriously wrong. Anyone else seeing this problem, or am I just supposed to have to do the Ranger Path quest to get my original secondary back?

You need to do the path quest for each job you are switching to (even if you had it before ascension).
There is no way of permanently deleting/forgetting known skills, so you will have all your ranger skills when choosing it again (after path quest). |

ranger path took me 2 hours to complete, and now it will take longer due to the new anti-bot mob that was put near the quest.

You should only have to complete the Path quests once(per character), after that, you're golden to switch to whatever, whenever.

I think what he means is he didn't have to do the quest for his original profession before. When I switched from N/E to N/Me, I had to do the mesmer quest. However, when I switched back to N/E from N/Me, I didn't have to do the elem quest.
Seems they changed that with the new patch? |

Eclectic,
It has always been this way. When you complete the ranger path quest you can change back to your ranger secondary. You will be refunded all of the points that you placed in your monk secondary attribute lines as well as have all your old Ranger skills restored. Also I will be upfront and say that the ranger secondary quest is absolutely a pain. But if you want, I can run you through it in about 15-20 mins with my monk and some henchies. Ranger Path now needs to be played from a diferent place or you will serious get pissed off about it.
I did it recently with henchman so I give you the ropes. Instead of just running out from Seeker's Passage go to Elona Reach and move out to Diviner's Ascent and go north then west until you reach the teleporter (reason is that Sand Drakes are fewer and not as anoying as the monster you face in Salt Flats) and then move to Salt Flats. Now go north and west until you reach another transporter, use it and you end up in a place were the exist is a bit into the southwest (its stairs), its full of Storm Kin and devourers but they are not that many (worst is when getting out of the teleporter, they end up ambushing you there) and when you get out of the stairs you be near the target. Now when I did it I simply stayed close to the wall and waited until the boss was alone, charged him and killed him ... if you watch for Kin patrols and wait you might have a open shoot at the boss without him having support from the other Storm Kin. I tried the mission before the update by going strait to him from were I got the mission was ripped apart by the Storm Kin that hang around him, when I did this way its was far easier. |

I think they added more monsters to a couple of areas. Getting to Dunes is far more tedious than I can recall...lots of monster chains too. As well as the area outside Amnoon - Prophet's Path. |

This is confusing. My W/Mo did the Mesmer Path quest and switched to mesmer, then back to monk without having done the Path of the Monk quest, on this character. I had done it with my necro/ranger earlier, but hadn't made the switch. This is the only thing I can think of, otherwise my w/mo and the other guy's elementalist could switch back and forth without doing the quest with that character first, or doing it with one character works for all characters? Doesn't seem likely, but that's all I can think of.
What a pain. Having already switched back and forth, I never dreamed I'd have to do the Ranger Path to get back to my original secondary. You'd think doing 20 levels as one would mean I've already "walked the path". Thanks for the offer, Lebeau The Pure. I might look you up. |

Well, I did it on my own, thanks for the advice of going from Elona. Still don't understand why one character could change right back while one couldn't.

I also did the Ranger quest pretty quickly. I hid from the large kin patrol, once they were out of aggro range - charged in, beat the hell out of the boss and just continued to beat the crap out of it even when the patrol got back - got the kill, logged out, logged back in to get the reward.
-*Possible Spoiler*- The Path that took me the longest to do what without a doubt - Monks Path. Just HOW many Jade Scarabs do you have to go through before you get to the Eater of Souls? I lost count. |
